ARTICLE 35 - REDLANDS INDEPENDENT STUDY EDUCATION (RISE)/HELP PROGRAM TEACHERS

35.1 Compensation Compensation for RISE and HELP teachers shall be provided in Appendix A-2.

35.2 Health and Welfare Benefits RISE and HELP Program unit members are eligible for participation in the District health benefits program as described in Article 7, Sections 7.3 - 7.6, inclusive, only if they regularly work a schedule of twelve and one-half (12 1/2) hours per week or more. “Regularly” shall be defined, for purposes of this Article, to mean an assignment which, in the judgment of the administration, will continue at the number of hours specified, throughout the fall and spring semesters of any given school year. Participation in the District benefits program on the part of part-time RISE and HELP Program unit members shall be:

35.2.1        Voluntary on the part of the member.

35.2.2        Predicated upon the following payment participation by the member:

35.3 Instructional Day RISE and HELP Program unit members shall be in their classrooms promptly at the beginning of the class hour for which they have been scheduled and remain until the assigned teaching period is concluded.

35.3.1        RISE educators who teach ten (10) or more hours per week shall be granted compensated preparation time per week on the basis of one (1) hour of preparation time to five (5) hours of instructional time.

35.4 Sick Leave RISE and HELP program unit members shall accrue sick leave at the rate of one (1) hour for every twenty (20) hours of service. Such leave is for use in the RISE and HELP programs only.

35.4.1        Additional Leave Every RISE/HELP employee shall be entitled to use up to eight (8) days (on a prorated basis based on hours worked per day) per year of paid sick leave for reasons of personal necessity in accordance with Article 8.7.1. Every RISE/HELP employee shall be entitled to use two (2) additional days per year of paid sick leave as general leave for any reason. An employee shall, except in cases of demonstrable emergency, give notice of intent to use personal necessity leave in writing to his/her principal/designee.

35.5 Maternity Benefits Hourly or part-time RISE members are not eligible for Maternity Leave Benefits or provisions.

35.6 Bereavement Leave

RISE and HELP program unit members shall be entitled to five (5) days of paid leave of absence, as assignment bears to full time, on account of the death of any member of his/her immediately family. This leave shall not be deducted from sick leave.

35.7 Jury Duty Leave On the first day RISE and HELP program unit members are to report for Jury Duty, the following provisions shall apply:

35.7.1        An employee granted jury duty leave shall be granted full compensation according to their regularly scheduled hours for one day of jury duty service.  Employee is required to submit an affidavit verifying completion of jury service.

35.7.2        RISE and HELP program unit members who report for jury service and are released prior to noon shall call their work site to determine with their immediate supervisor what professional activities they will complete to fulfill their contract hours.
