Membership Assistance
Teacher Aid Committee
Chairperson: Sue YoungThe Teacher Aid committee will make an interest-free loan, or in some cases a grant, to members for aid in cases of illness or other serious emergencies. There will be a limit of $1,000 in most cases.
Serious emergencies will be defined by a majority opinion of the Teacher Aide Committee. Prior to a decision by the Committee an application must be completed and submitted to the chairperson of the committee. Applications are available at the RTA office.
All loans will be put on payroll deduction. Loans may be prepaid before the next pay period. Loans will be paid off within the current contract year. Under special circumstances the Teacher Aid Committee may extend the payoff period. After a decision is made by the committee, the applicant will be contacted by the chairperson. If approved, the applicant may then go to the RTA office to sign a loan agreement and receive a check.
College Loan Committee
Chairperson: Maria ClarkThe College Loan Committee will make interest free loans to active members of the Redlands Teachers Association for assistance with their college tuition, books, supplies, mileage and childcare. There will be a limit of $1000 in most cases, with a maximum of $2000, if funds are available. The committee will meet as needed, based on the number of applications received by the RTA office.
All loans will be processed by the committee with the review of an application that states the nature of the college classes to be taken, and outlines of the exact expenses that the member will incur. All loans will be put on payroll deduction. Loans may be prepaid before the next pay period. Loans are to be paid off within the current contract year, on a monthly system of equal amounts. Applications may be made for extensions, but not to exceed one calendar year, with the approval of the committee. Documentation of tuition, fees, books, etc. must be provided to verify the costs incurred by the member. A penalty payroll deduction card will be completed and signed by the member at the same time that the regular payroll deduction card is signed. Penalty cards will only be processed if verification of expenses is not provided in the time period set by the committee. The penalty shall consist of one additional monthly payment.
After a decision has been made by the committee, the applicant will be notified by the office manager, and the applicant will go to the RTA office to sign the payroll deduction cards and the loan agreement, and to receive his/her check.
